Looking for a budget day out in Sydney? Wanting to relax on a beach that isn’t packed with people, like the majority in the eastern suburbs? Don’t fret, here’s why you should head to Watsons Bay.
What Is Watsons Bay?
Watsons Bay is actually a suburb in eastern Sydney, located just North of Bondi. Home to a wharf, Watsons Bay has a direct link to Circular Quay in Sydney CBD, in the form of a ferry. It’s also possible to catch the bus from areas around Sydney. Therefore, making Watsons Bay accessible with ease by public transport. For such a small area of a humongous city like Sydney, there’s certainly no shortage of activities in Watsons Bay. You could easily make a full day of a trip to the area.
Australia, Australia, Australia… Where to begin. The country of towering cities lined with golden sand beaches. The huge eco-system and largest living thing on the planet, which is the great barrier reef. The world recognisable giant sandstone, vivid red rock, Uluru. The list could go on and on. It’s a bit of a no brainer when it comes to spending a year-long working holiday visa in Australia wouldn’t you say?
Back in 2013, when I was travelling South East Asia with Olivia, a working holiday in Australia never appealed to us. After 6 months in Asia, our bank accounts were drained and we were on a flight from Hong Kong back to the UK. Back to the UK for what? I found myself questioning over and over again. Back to Manchester to live in a city I didn’t want to live in, to work in a job I didn’t want to do.
Australia is a country like no other. The land down under offers a huge variety of opportunities. You could spend your days surfing on Bondi Beach, enjoy all the coffee under the sun in Melbourne, explore the orange, desert like landscapes in the outback or forget your nights with excessive amounts of goon on the east coast, it’s hard not to have the time of your life here.
Each year millions of people decide to apply for their working holiday visa and make their way to Australia for up to 2 years. This can be an exciting time for anyone, after months of planning back home, working hard to save while day-dreaming of lying on that beach in the beaming sun. However, the first few weeks can be testing for anyone arriving in a whole new country with no home or job. With the right preparation and knowledge though, those tiresome and sometimes stressful first couple of weeks of job hunting and flat searching can be made a hell of a lot easier.
